The K-Tizzle Sizzle - There's a hole in my...

Katie waited 12 years for the Vengabus to arrive.

... bucket list
by Katie Langley

After fuelling up on caffeine (that’s all, I promise – oh, the life of a blogger with a “9 to 5”) and running around like a madwoman at BIGSOUND last week to see the many and varied musicians, I was reminded of how my musical taste has expanded over the years. There was a time in my life when I wouldn’t listen to anything unless it was heavy, angst-y and involved leather. Fast forward several years and I’ve taken a ride on the Vengabus and danced on stage with Brian Mannix. I’ve grooved along with The Dandy Warhols and flopped around awkwardly to Crystal Castles.

I have so many gig highlights; it’s hard to pick a favourite. I’ve seen some really awesome artists over the years, but there are still a few left on my bucket list.

German industrial band KMFDM are most definitely top of my pops. I started listening to their music a couple of years ago on the recommendation of a friend (hi Matt D) and haven’t looked back. This is a band that has been around since the mid-80s and has released eighteen albums!

If I went to a show would I wear coloured dreadlocked hair pieces with an uber tight PVC dress? With a little (read: a lot) of Dutch courage, sure. And maybe a whole lot of caffeine. Cough.

I am absolutely gutted that I haven’t yet been able to see Peaches in concert. Peaches is the woman who grows her bush full and proud, letting it peak out from under short shorts. Peaches is the woman with lyrics like “sucking on my titties like you wanted me” and “come diddle my skittle 'cause there's only one peach with the hole in the middle”. Peaches is a little bit rude, a lot crude and I love her.

Har Mar Superstar

I came so close to seeing Har Mar Superstar in concert. So close. I had tickets. I had visions of getting up close and personal with the man himself, but it wasn’t to be. Unfortunately the show was cancelled at the last moment. I think about Har Mar Superstar every time I get a little bit drunk and decide to pick up my phone (dialing under the influence).

The Spice Girls

I tell you what I want, what I really, really want… To see the Spice Girls in concert! I had such a love for the Spice Girls; some might have called it an obsession. I had a shirt, a ring, a bracelet, books, posters and CDs. But I didn’t have it all. I didn’t get to have the live experience. Vengaboys, Aqua and other 90s gold are starting to re-emerge for tours, so it must be time for them dust off their platform shows for a reunion tour!

It’s no secret that I’m infatuated with anything Chino Moreno does. Deftones: love them and have seen them. Team Sleep: love them and have seen them. Crosses: love them and need to see them!

Die Antwoord

I think Die Antwoord are freaky, and I like them a lot. But I haven’t yet had an opportunity to see them live. I can imagine there would be a lot of hijinks and maybe even Nutella sarmies.

I moved on from only listening to heavy, angst-y, leather clad musicians, but I still have a soft spot for them! Ministry are another amazing Industrial band that have been doing their thang since the 80s. With an album titled From Beer to Eternity, what’s not to love?

Flynt Flossy

I am fully prepared for judgement and disgust at my admission of love for Flynt Flossy. I am in awe of that man. Is he being serious? Is it a joke? Either way, his music and video clips are absolutely hilarious and you can count on me being at his show should he ever come to Brisbane. By the way, did I tell you I like to dance?
