The K-Tizzle Sizzle - I Wanna Talk About Me, I Wanna Talk About Number One

Who will teenage Katie pick in her top5? Please note this may or may not actually be teenage Katie.

 Teenage Katie's Hottest 100 5
by Katie Langley

Voting closed this week on the triple J Hottest 100. Who will win? Will it be ‘Royals’? Or will Daft Punk 'Get Lucky'? Badoom-tish! I have cast my vote and upon reflection was actually quite surprised at the songs I had chosen. I’ve changed, and I don’t just mean my hair style. Well that’s probably not entirely accurate either – I’ve been rockin’ the same hair-do for a while now. I digress. The point is that my taste in musical has really expanded over the years. But what would teenage Katie have voted for?

‘Lift’ – Sunk Loto

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I was obsessed with Sunk Loto. For about 5 years I was proud of the fact that I had been to each and every single show they played in Brisbane. Stalker, much? I still a whole heap of paraphernalia that I can’t quite bring myself to throw away. Maybe it's time to put a few Sunk Loto stickers on my Corolla.

‘Punch in the Face’ – Frenzal Rhomb

Growing up it just wasn’t a music festival without Frenzal Rhomb. They were typically scheduled at midday, right as the sun was absolutely pelting down on your head. Nevertheless, I was always front and centre, madly jumping around, getting sunburnt in the process.

‘Play’ – Cheezcake

I thought this song and this band were so damn cool, and that I was cool for liking it. I am though, right? C'mon, you have to admit that the use of 'z' instead of 's' is pretty cutting edge.

‘Strawberry Deluxe’ – Skulker

For a while there I thought that perhaps I too could join a girl band. The only trouble with this brilliant idea is that I have absolutely no musical ability whatsoever. Fail.

‘Just Ace’ – Grinspoon

Grinspoon were another festival staple for me - watching Phil fumble and bumble on stage, sometimes in fun eye shadow. I would later learn why he was bumbling about. The band are now on and indefinite hiatus and I can't help but feel a little bit sad. That's teenage Katie and Katie of current day.
