The K-Tizzle Sizzle - Because I'm Worth It

Even Carly Simon thinks I'm so vain...

Because I'm Worth It
by Katie Langley

This week it’s all about me. Some of you may think that dedicating a whole blog post to yourself is arrogant and self-indulgent. Firstly, it’s my blog post and I’ll be an ego maniac if I want to. Secondly, I don’t give a shit what you think. And finally, yes, I do think this song is about me.

The lead up to Valentine’s Day is always a bit cringe worthy. It may come as a surprise for you to know that I’m not a complete hater when it comes to the day. Love, appreciation and chocolates can never be a bad thing, right? But what I do hate is that the hype is centred on who is going to do something for you. Will he send flowers? Will she call? Does he love me even though I’m a Blieber? The message seems to be that our worth is wrapped up in someone else.  Well, I’m not buying into it.

Instead of moping around on Valentine’s Day, or wondering if someone would send a fat-o-gram, I decided to take charge. Who better to spoil myself than me?  Now that I think about it, I’m not so sure if I’d call this self-love, or just an excuse to buy an expensive pair of sunglasses. Yes, that’s exactly what I did. The shop assistant even squealed “ooo, treat yo-self!” as I forked over the dosh.

Here’s a collection of songs, dedicated to me, to remind me that I’m worth it. You go girl.

‘Sexy and I Know It’ – LMFAO

Note to self: Spin class has been doing wonders for your derriere. Find a pair of animal print pants immediately.

‘Like a Boss’ – The Lonely Island (ft. Seth Rogen)

Note to self: Don’t shit on anyone’s desk. Remind colleagues at the next staff meeting that I’ve got it covered, like a boss.

‘The Best’ – Tina Turner

Note to self:  You really are the best, better than all the rest. Except for Jo, she’s pretty good too.

‘I Believe I Can Fly’ – R. Kelly

Note to self: Don’t ever take hallucinogenic drugs. Don’t ever be alone with R. Kelly.

‘Number 1’ – Nelly

Note to self: Don’t ever confuse number one with number two.

P.S. Thank you to the lovely Matthew Bond for providing last week’s sizzle. I’d also like to say thank you to my Mum who felt the need to tell me twice just how much she enjoyed it. This is just a little test to see if she’s reading this week. Hi, Mum!
