Confession: I love Christmas. It really is the most wonderful time of year. Yeah yeah, vomit. While many people baulk and gag at the gaudiness and cheesiness of it all, I embrace it with open arms. Tinsel? Love it. Novelty Christmas hats? Can’t get enough. Christmas songs and carols? Yes, please!
Die Roten Rosen – ‘Stille Nacht,Heilige Nacht’
Punk Christmas carols, what's not to love? Germany's Die Toten Hosen released a Christmas album under the alias Die Roten Rosen, changing the lyrics of many of the carols to reflect some more sinister themes. Brilliant, I say. Or should I say "sehr gut".
Dez Fafara - 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'
I appreciate the simple things in life - taking off my bra at the end of a long day, the wind on my face driving down the highway, the smell of freshly cut grass, and this song.
Bad Religion – ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’
Bad Religion release AN ENTIRE ALBUM of Christmas songs, and it is pure brilliance. I dare you to listen to it and not bop and shake around like a lunatic.
Korn – ‘Jingle Balls’
This is one of those songs that's so bad that it's good, you know? I enjoy telling people I have a special Christmas carol to play for them, putting this on and then watching them recoil in disgust. Yes, I'm a horrible person.
Mariah Carey – ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’
It just wouldn't be a Christmas song list without ole Mariah! It might be a surprising addition given some of my other selections, but this is a classic. It's also one of my favourite songs to belt out at karaoke, regardless of the time of year. Fun fact.
